Presidential hopeful Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi allies Bobi Wine has been blocked from appearing on BCU 100.6 FM in Mbale. The highly anticipated talk show was this morning, blocked by the security operatives.

The NUP supporters donning red started converging outside the Bugisu Cooperative Union (BCU) radio station premises as early as 7am as they chanted People Power slogan. Police was alerted and officers were deployed to disperse them.

Police engaged the NUP supporters in running battles in the city as they fired teargas canisters and bullets. In the process, several people were arrested and are currently detained at Mbale Central Police Station.

The political landscape appears to be skewed towards NRM advantage. Many opposition politicians have been blocked rallying the masses on radio stations. Others have been arrested in what appears to be double standards by the NRM ruling party.

Bobi Wine is facing an uphill task to maintain his political contest with the incumbent President Museveni. It is alleged that State House Mafia are behind the calculated move of Andrew Mwenda joining the NUP. Mwenda is poised to give Bobi Wine a running stomach in the days to come. Yesterday, the seasoned journalist paid for party membership for the NUP and also picked nomination forms for the flag bearer at the party headquarters in Kamwokya.

People Power supporters see Mwenda’s move as highly hypocritical, owing to his strong allegiance to President Museveni. Social media was awash with mixed reactions of how Mwenda will use the NUP membership and flag-bearer contest to relay internal information back to Statehouse Entebbe.
