The National Unity Platform party has urged interested qualified Ugandans to throng the party headquarters and fetch nomination forms for the party presidential flag bearer.
Speaking at a presser on Tuesday in Kamwokya, the party spokesperson and Nakawa West MP hopeful, Joel Ssenyonyi disregarded media claims that Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine was nominated unopposed and surreptitiously declared flag bearer. Ssenyonyi says Bobi was simply anointed the head of the NUP party but that does not mean he is the party’s big shot for presidency. “Announcing Bobi Wine as the NUP President does not mean he’s already the party flag bearer. Members are free to stand against him,” Ssenyonyi said.
At the same event, Ssenyonyi said maverick journalist, Andrew Mwenda who a week a go headlined in the press for picking a NUP card and declaring his bid for presidency, could have picked the wrong forms because in the records of the NUP secretariat, no forms for that position have ever been issued. “Last week Mwenda picked forms but unfortunately he did not take the right forms. He took forms of MPs, youth leaders and councillors. If he wants the presidential forms he should come back again,” Ssenyonyi said.
The NUP leadership also announced its readiness to usher in the next government at the end of the term of incumbent Yoweri Museveni who has led the country for the past decade. The youths were urged to massively turn up and not only vote for new leaders but also offer themselves as potential leads by competiting for the youth slots.
