The National Resistance Movement chairperson and lifetime presidential candidate, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has decried what he termed as media ‘bias’ on him. The 76 year old tyrant says Ugandan media is ‘too biased on him and the NRM party’ and yet offer his opponents ample coverage.
“Most of the media houses are for the opposition. If you’re to quantify the media I think you could say that 80% is anti-NRM. But NRM has survived inspite of all these liars,” Museveni said. Addressing the state owned Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) TV in an interview, Museveni exclaimed that most media houses today promote only his opponent, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, the youthful contender for the top seat of presidency. “These media house only show negative things about the NRM but when it comes to Bobi Wine, they will show how he is having the support. They capture crowds of Bobi to give him an impression that he can win my seat,” Museveni said. “I don’t understand what journalists see in Bobi Wine. All the time they are encamped at the NUP/PP headquarters covering press conferences yet the NRM party is doing charity which is not covered,” he added.
Museveni also said, “My daughters Full Figure and Kusasira are giving out welding machines to help the youths but no media is covering that. They prefer Bobi Wine.”
Museveni also emphasised that campaigns will strictly be held scientifically. “Campaigns are about passing on ideas/message, Uganda has enough radios and televisions to facilitate the scientific campaigning process,” he said. “Politicians can communicate to their voters through radios especially in the evening when people are at home. I’m a Christian & I have never met Jesus, I’ve never held a meeting with Jesus but I get the message by reading the Bible,” Museveni added.
