At the weekly National Unity Platform party presser held this morning, the principal and presidential hopeful, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine received hordes of members who wanted to associate with revolutionary wave ahead of the 2021 general elections.

Among these were youths in the informal sector, elites, artistes and sports men who play the boxing game for a living. As usual, the hordes were unveiled by the principal himself amidst loud ululations and cheers from supporters of the People Power movement. At the same function, youths who are tired of Museveni’s life presidency officially defected from the ruling NRM party and swore allegiance to the National Unity Platform party. The team was donned in the yellow NRM t-shirts inscribed with labels identical to Museveni. The young men handed over their NRM cards and shirts to Bobi Wine in exchange for the NUP membership cards. A youth platform dubbed ‘Vibrant Youth in Action’ has been launched to spearhead the mobilization for the NUP ahead of the polls.
“Fellow countrymen and women, we are entering a new phase of the revolution and now is the time to decide whether you side with the oppressed or the oppresser,” Bobi said in a statement. “I welcome these young men and women who have seen the light and chose to join the oppressed. Bear in mind that this is not my revolution, or your revolution but it is a revolution for all the oppressed Ugandans,” he added.
Asked why they chose to chip off the NRM, one of the defectors told our reporter that all the years he has supported Museveni, his experience has been nothing but misery and agony. “In the NRM, everything is about Museveni. He wants to be worshipped like some sort of small god yet he is in the evening of his life,” revealed Tonny Dangana, one of the defectors. “Uganda is bleeding and the poverty rate is alarming. Our people are not working. We deserve a better livelihood,” he added.
Since the People Power movement morphed into the National Unity Platform party, it has attracted millions of Ugandans who to-date seek to affiliate with this wave. Yesterday’s youth elections alone gave a clear picture of what is likely to ensue in the general elections.
