State Minister for health and Kakumiro woman MP, Robinah Nabbanja has heaped blames on the election period as the sole cause of the soaring covid cases as the country plunges into a peak point.

Nabbanja’s remarks follow yesterday’s registration of 64 cumulative cases which brought the number to 2,426 and several deaths are being reported daily.

The state Minister says it would be justifiable for the government to put the election period to a halt and divert back to the fight against COVID-19. “At the beginning we were all on the same page in terms of the COVID-19 measures but I don’t know what went wrong,” Nabbanja wondered. “We have to go back to the drawing board as cabinet and make precautionary resolutions. This election should be extended so we can concentrate on covid again,” she proposed.

She also notes that, “It’s in this elections period that we have seen multiple flouting of the Standard operating procedures (SOPs). The country needs to go back on how we had started the battle and observe all health guidelines.”

MP Nambooze however holds a divergent opinion where she urges government to feed the population again and reimpose the lockdown. “I am of a view that the lockdown is maintained but the people should be fed,” she retorted on NBS during barometer extra show.

It should be noted that although the Electoral Commission resolved to hold a scientific poll, candidates of the ruling NRM government have persistently flouted the precautionary SOPs on COVID-19. Museveni and his Cabinet ministers including Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng have been seen engaging the public in physical campaigns.
