Kampala Lord Mayor hopeful Ronald Mayanja aka Jose Chameleone has finally established his campaign office long Balintuma Road in Mengo, Rubaga Division.
“Today we have agreed with the police authorities to hold a scientific opening of our office | Command Centre [Tuesday] 2021 starting 9:30am,” he said.
Earlier this month, Police used teargas and bullets to disperse Chameleone’s supporters who had turned up for the Command Centre opening.
Chameleone said he was physically assaulted by officers as well. “I do not see any reason as to why the police should use rubber bullets and tear gas to stop us from launching our office. It is really against the law and I call upon the police to work hand in hand with us this Tuesday so that we can have a peaceful event,” he told journalists.
Chameleone condemned the actions of the Police, arguing that they had followed all the Ministry of Health guidelines on COVID-19.
He said all they were doing was organising their taskforce that will help them reach out to people in the coming elections. “We have decided to halt the launch, to prevent our supporters from being hurt by teargas,” he said.
