The Commission through the Acting General Secretary, Mulekwa Leonard says Museveni’s academic credentials don’t need any verification since they satisfied all the necessary requirements for him to be eligible to contest for the top seat in all the previous general elections.

“For avoidance of doubt if a candidate has an Advanced level certificate obtained in Uganda or from a former or any constituent colleges, there shall be no need for verification of his or her qualifications by the National Council of Higher Education,” he stated.

Earlier last week, a Makerere University don, Prof. Ndebesa Mwambutsya affirmed that Mr. Museveni was an alumnus of the University of East Africa (Dar es Salaam) which categorically lies in the said constituent colleges Mr. Leonard is talking about.

The EC also tasked the plight of the doubting ‘Thomases’ to make reference to the 2016 election petition lodged in by former presidential aspirant, John Patrick Amama Mbabazi who had challenged the outcome. “As to whether nomination of the said candidate was proper and or legal or legitimate, please note that a particular issue was conclusively canvassed in presidential election petition number 01 of 2016 (Amama Mbabazi vs. Museveni, EC and others,” the EC secretary general says.

The National Unity Platform party president, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu on this morning stated in a statement that the Commission would not respond with urgency to the petition of Muwadda Nkunyinji unlike how they did when controversial lawyer, Male Mabirizi tasked them to produce his (Bobi Wine’s credentials).
