Kavuma Jamushid and Mativu Adam who have been in incarceration at Wandegeya police station for five days featured in a footage engaging in a brawl with unruly police officers who attempted to block them from accessing court premises. The two suspects who appeared bold and passionate for the cause denied all the charges pressed on them before the magistrates court green lighted their bail application. Their lawyer, Shamim Malende asked court to grant the suspects bail on grounds that the duo have not received decent medication since they were clobbered by the errant police officers who were filmed ganging on them on a police truck.

After reviewing the video of the events that ensued that Friday, the police spokesperson, Fred Enanga ordered that four counts to be slapped on the two suspects. These charges include; inciting violence, obstructing police officers on duty, assault and negligence if covid guidelines.

Bail forms for the duo

NUP supporters pitched camp at the LDC court premises and raised the required UGX 2m cash bail in just a blink. However some decried the harsh response of the judiciary which they say has made justice some sort if business. “Justice is costly in Uganda. The courts are only bothered about money and not offering credible justice,” retorted one of the NUP supporters at court.
