Today, Dr. Roy Ssemboga clearly reaffirmed his position that he is to advance as an independent candidate for Kawempe South despite the committee resolution to have Kazibwe Bashir Mbaziira as the ultimate NUP candidate for the same constituency.

In his statement, Dr. Ssemboga clearly stated that he would not respect what the committee had decided. “I have had numerous engagements with all members of the board of NUP and the top leadership most importantly with our Principal and presidential candidate Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert,” reads part of Roy’s statement.

Our snoops have however learnt that on Friday when the NUP party had resolved to rally behind Kazibwe Bashir for the Kawempe South seat, Dr. Roy was contacted by Kampala central MP, Muhammad Nsereko through his personal assistant. There is a plot by the NRM regime to capitalize on the infights among members of the NUP to stir more divisions and give the NRM an added advantage over the opposition. As Museveni wraps up his final days of presidency, he wants to leave Kampala in the hands of his party in a bid to protect his multibillion investments in the city. Muhammad Nsereko was tasked to spot for the disgruntled NUP members mainly in Kampala and we have since learnt that he already sorted out Dr. Jose Chameleone who is now the NRM party’s defacto Lord Mayoral candidate.

At exactly 20:00hrs on Friday, October 2, Nsereko met Dr. Ssemboga at Frank Tumwebaze’s Nyumbani Hotel in Makerere Kikoni where the duo held talks. The party was also attended by the ISO boss, Kaka Bagyenda who wanted to get some facts from the NUP. They discussed how they would add Roy to the Chameleone project to divide NUP and bar it from having grip on Kampala. A source privy to this meeting says Roy received about UGX 50m in cash from Nsereko and Kaka who asked him to proceed with his push for Kawempe South and frustrate Kazibwe’s highly anticipated victory. Among the terms of the agreement, he was asked to make the statement not beyond Tuesday. We are therefore not surprised that it has come out very late in the night moreover when Latiff Ssebaggala also just announced his return to Kawempe North.

Earlier in January this year, Roy was implicated to have negotiated a deal with State house aides who wanted to know what was taking place in the People Power camp. “In January 2020, I received intelligence from State house when Roy was negotiating. It was no surprise therefore that SFC invaded NUP in kakira at 1am when kibalama was signing out,” reveals one of our trusted sources.
