In a press conference held in Kawempe this morning, pro-Kidandala councillors rubbished the NUP committee verdict and tasked them to make a reevaluation.
“He is not fit to be our Flag bearer.”
Kawempe North Councilors disagree with the NUP vetting committee that gave the ticket to Muhammed Ssegirinya instead of Sulaiman Kidandala saying his nature and character makes him not worth the ticket,” says one of the councillors.

The NUP Local Council flag bearers for Kawempe North said they have already filed a petition to the secretariat explaining their fury on the knifing of Kidandala. Led by Charles Sserubiri, the NUP coordinator for Kawempe North and Councilor Eng.Katumba Panadol say the have mobilized 40 out of the 47 councilors who have already signed the petition protesting the party’s decision. They argue that Ssegirinya is not suitable for the position, given his “nature and character”.

“It’s an embarassement to NUP to award the party ticket to comedic and less popular members. He is not fit for the seat,” another councillor said. “Ssegirinya has shaky academic papers and may even be pulled out of parliament any time,” he added.

The discontent arises just less than 24 hours since the incumbent Latiff Ssebaggala also announced his intention to bounce back for the position. Many analysts say all the NUP infights and divisions are staged by members of the DP Bloc who earlier flocked the party. They have since advanced their individual interests to frustrate the people’s struggle for a new Uganda.
