The Kyadondo East legislator Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert alias Bobi Wine today slapped his presidential bid to the Buganda Kingdom officials in what appeared to be an enticement to have them on board ahead of 2021. The NUP party president who had just won a court case had to respond to a formal invite to Bulange Mengo where he was urgently needed for round table discussions.
Kyagulanyi and his entourage that comprised of NUM politicians braved through teargas, bullet, barricades and intimidation of his supporters till they reached Bulange with a mammoth crowd.
Kyagulanyi had closed door talks off camera with the Buganda Kingdom prime Minister, Charles Peter Mayiga before they later came out about 30 minutes later to an open air conversation.
In the open air discussion, Kyagulanyi decried the police brutality and heavy handedness of the men in uniform while handling Ugandan citizens. He related the Mbogo clan raid to a pattern of previous atrocities that have happened before. “Owek. Katikkiro, before you is Zaake Francis Butebi from Mityana. He would be walking comfortably like the rest of us in his shoe but he was disabled by men in uniform who tortured him because of his tribe,” Kyagulanyi said. Regarding his presidential bid, the 38 year old leader prayed for the cultural blessings ahead of the mega battle in 2021. “Owekitibwa Katikkiro, although my team and I have told you about this, I would like to officially present my 2021 presidential ambitions and ask for your blessings so that I leave this place with them.” In the Buganda culture whenever fighters would go to the battlefield, they would always solicit for blessings from the palace.
Kyagulanyi’s meeting with the Kingdom officials ended at about 18:00hrs and he had to get back to his duties. But even as he proceeded, police ironically replicated the very actions it had apologised for and consequently, a Boda cyclist of the ‘Freedom Boda’ group whom we’ve been told is called Brian just lost his fingers to a police canister.
