The cleared include; Gen. Yoweri Tibuhaburwa Museveni of the National Resistance Movement party who was not even subjected to verification perhaps a privilege accorded to the incumbents, Gen. Henry Tumukunde Kakurugu (Independent), Fred Mwesigye (Independent), and Nancy Kalembe (Independent)

The EC say they are still verifying forms of the NUP party president, Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert alias Bobi Wine and other candidates of the ANT, FDC, DP among others.

“The Commission is still verifying the supporters of 18 other candidates,” reiterated the EC spokesperson, Paul Bukenya on Sunday. “We however appeal to candidates not to forge signatures because we shall still know,” he added.

In section 10(b) of the Presidential and Parliamentary Elections Act provides that a presidential candidate’s nomination shall be supported by not less than 100 persons who are registered voters, from not less than 98 districts, which form two thirds of all districts of Uganda.

A source in the EC who spoke to this site under anonymity in fear of reprisals intimates that Gen. Museveni and his team did not look for signatures. “They didn’t look for those signatures. The EC chairman, Simon Byabakama used the voters’ details and colluded with the NRM SG Kasule Lumumba to incorporate the information into seconders of Gen. Tibuhaburwa,” the source reveals.
