As preparations for the presidential nomination day of Kyadondo East legislator, Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert alias Bobi Wine are in high gear, the Uganda Police Force has warned that they could be compelled to arrest him if he violates the existing covid guidelines.
In a statement issued this Tuesday morning, police warned that they could be forced to block Kyagulanyi from proceeding to the nomination centre in Kyambogo if he advances with a mammoth crowd as widely anticipated.
“We are getting information that some presidential aspirants are mobilising thousands of their supporters to escort them for nominations next week,” police said in a Tuesday statement.
“Any presidential aspirant, who makes a procession, contrary to Independent Electoral Commission guidelines of having only 10 people, will be arrested and detained,” the statement further reads.
Police however rallies candidates to adhere to the covid guidelines if they don’t want to face any reprisals. “We appeal to the aspirants not to defy the Independent Electoral Commission guidelines,” Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire says.
