A police constable in Amuru district has this Saturday afternoon collapsed during a one kilometre marathon. Sources privy to the development say the deceased Morish Odoch, 29, had complained of hunger after spending two days without eating at the training centre. The comstables are reportedly in very poor conditions and are hardly fed on decent meals.

“We eat posho and beans only once a day after spending the biggest part of the day in training,” one of the police constable confessed to the press. “Morish had asked to be given food but the trainer refused and said hunger was part of the police training,” he adds.

However, the Aswa regional police spokesperson Jimmy Patrick Okema, has discarded reports that the deceased Morish Odoch of Mutema village, Pailyec parish , Layima sub-county in Amuru district died of hunger. Although he maintains that the deceased died after running for one kilometer.

“We have lost one candidate Odoch Morish R/O of Mutema village Pailyec parish Layima S/c in Amuru District during physical fitness test of 5kms run of the PPCS interview. He had just run 1and half km,” Okema said in a statement.

The Uganda Police Force announced a recruitment of 5000 extra constables to help man the looming 2021 general elections. Uganda Police ratio is currently at one police officer for every 850 people as compared to the UN standard of one officer for every 500 civilians. The police force is structured at 38000 officers as per credible sources in the police human resource department.
