The Electoral Commission has this Monday morning warned presidential candidates Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert aka Bobi Wine of the National Unity Platform party and his counterpart, Eng. Patrick Amuriat Oboi of the Forum for Democratic Change party to appear before the disciplinary committee in person.

This follows letters that were slapped at them last week where the EC stressed that they were persistently flouting covid guidelines despite warnings tasking them to operate in strict adherence to the notions of the scientific elections. “We have made it clear that we want candidates (Kyagulanyi and Amuriat) to appear in person. We expect compliance,” EC mouthpiece Paul Bukenya says. ‘We don’t expect them to send delegates or lawyers. It is in order for the returning officers to call candidates for a meeting. We are concerned about the safety of the candidates and the people” he warns.

Ssenyonyi has however said as the NUP, their candidate is too busy and may not find time to attend to the committee. He also stresses that the EC is exhibiting double standards by declining to summon the incumbent president and NRM party candidate Yoweri Tibuhaburwa Museveni who has also mastered the art of undermining covid guidelines as evidenced in the rallies he holds wherever he goes to campaign. “I don’t know why EC has not invited candidate Tibuhaburwa. All candidates have falled short as far as COVID-19 guidelines are concerned,” Ssenyonyi says. “Candidate Museveni came out to say it would be madness to organize elections during the COVID-19 pandemic. I do not know what he was saying back then. Does the EC want us to get teargas and bullets and begin to kill people like the police does? Police should do their part. I would like to see them do what they are doing for candidate Tibuhaburwa. It doesn’t make logical sense to shoot people dead to prevent them from dying of COVID-19,” Ssenyonyi adds.
