Reacting on the Electoral Commission suggestions that the people should just vote and walk away, Kyagulanyi said in an exclusive interview with BBS TV on Monday night that all this is a conspiracy to aid the rigging. Byabakama had earlier on said that it is right for the voters to vote and leave without causing any commotion that may quicken the transmission of Covid.

“I want to make a clarion call to all Ugandans. Please turn up with your masks and vote,” Kyagulanyi said in the night interview with BBS. “Use your smart phones to take records of what transpires at polling stations. Keep a keen eye on the stations even when they chase you away, keep a safe distance and record whatever is happening,” he added.

The EC chairperson however insists that if people keep around the polling stations as rallied by the NUP leader, the police will be forced to use coercive measures to wipe them off. “We are having a pandemic at hand and we will not take chances,” he said. “Much as we are in an election, we should bear in mind that we need to be alive. Dead bodies don’t vote,” he said.

With less than 9 days left to the polls, preparations are ongoing to ensure that the process is conducted in a safe and secure manner. The UPDF in liaison with the police and other security agencies have already taken over areas like Kampala and Wakiso where NUP enjoys a huge support margin.
