The coming of NUP onto the political scene of Uganda did not only threaten NRM but also some elements within the opposition that are fighting for existence.
The NUP vetting committee decided to plant candidates in all positions within Kampala something that brought trouble to some of the thought Powerful political players including Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago of FDC and Mohammed Nsereko of NRM/Independent.
Many thought that NUP and Kyagulanyi could spare some positions that had already been liberated by the opposition. However the NUP high command took a decesion to plant candidates in all positions not sparing any especially those occupied by opposition Politicians who are not loyal to the NUP President.
Nsereko and Lukwago therefore sat on a round table to target NUP whom they refer to as the common enemy wanting to make them un employed for 5 years. The two therefore agreed to form an alliance that will end the NUP dominace in the capital Kampala. Nsereko agreed to openly back up Lukwago to make sure that he retains his Lord Mayoral position.
Since then Nsereko has started with the propaganda that NUP’s Nabilah Naggayi Sempala is an NRM agent aimed selling the city to Museveni. However many NUP supporters have treated the claims with contempt.
In the just concluded MP and Presidential elections, Lukwago and Nsereko were shocked to see that NUP swept the whole of Kampala with Nsereko’s surviving by a whisker of only 900 votes. Opponent and 1st runner up in the race Chairman Nyanzi Fred has promised to take the matter to court saying that he has evidence that Nsereko rigged the election. This puts Nsereko in a very sorrow state worried to lose his seat he has occupied for a decade.
Lukwago is also worried after seeing the candidates he backed like Mubarak Munyagwa of Kawempe South losing in a very humiliating way therefore realizing that this election cannot be so easy for him just like the past ones.
The NUP umbrella has shadowed all other Political parties in Kampala something worrying politicians who do not belong to NUP.
Bobi Wine the NUP shinning star has urged the people of Kampala to tick the umbrella tomorrow wherever they see it. This means he has asked the people of Kampala to vote for Nabilah Naggayi Sempala as the next Mayoress of the capital Kampala
