The National Unity Platform party president Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert aka Bobi Wine has in a live Facebook stream announced his stand on the just concluded general elections. Streamed just a few minutes ago on his official Facebook page that was flanked by 51.9k like viewers, Bobi Wine gave his supporters hope and guided them on the way forward regarding his next step after spending days in a de facto house arrest with his premises engulfed by heavily armed security personnel.
Bobi Wine says as the NUP party, they have overwhelming proof that the entire electoral was sham and marred with irregularities. “We have resounding evidence questioning the legitimacy of this election. Ballots were stuffed, my agents arrested and NUP supporters harrased by security agents,” Bobi says. “I won the elections with the support from the people of Uganda,” he adds.
Kyagulanyi however maintains that even though he won the election and the EC instead declared Museveni, they are not yet decided on taking the matter to court. Bobi’s indecisiveness on taking the legal path is inspired by the precendents in which courts have been ruling in favour of the incumbent president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. “We have seen people who have been here before us going to court but getting nothing fruitful even when the proof was obvious,” Bobi says. “Dr. Besigye, Amama Mbabazi have all been to court before. We know the judges are appointed by Mr. Museveni and therefore he controls the courts by default,” he adds.
He however leaves his supporters hopeful as he insists that there still stands a chance to ‘remove a dictator’. “We are consulting from our team and soon we will communicate our next course of action,” Bobi said. “I call upon Ugandans to use all the non violent means to reject the manufactured results that Justice Byabakama announced. It was clear we defeated Gen Museveni but as usual he staged a coup against our victory. I can guarantee you that we shall use all means to get rid of this dictator.” Bobi Wine adds.
