The police spokesperson Fred Enanga says they are more than ready to quash the protests being planned by the opposition supporters.
Speaking at the NBS live at 9 news bulletin, Enanga gave his take on the protests. He says unlike in the past where teargas has been used to tame and engage protesters, the police will this fime consider much ‘better’ discriminate measures.
“When we use teargas, it is indiscriminate and even affects bystanders who are not part of the protests,” Enanga said before prompting the host, Solomon Sserwanja to make a question in that regard. “So if not teargas, what then is police planning to use?,” eagerly asked Sserwanja as he insinuated a replica of what ensued last November where police used live ammunition to stop the protests.
Enanga however reveals that the police is ‘well equipped’ with modern warfare machines. “We will use batons because they are selective and can pick out those who protest,” Enanga said. “We have motorcycle brigades, foot patrol units, helicopters, water canons, and trucks where protesters can be restrained upon arrest. We are ready and prepared for all those who plan to cause mayhem,” he added.
