Esther Kisakye, the bold supreme court judge who dissented from the 9 man panel and gave her controversial verdict faces serious reprisals, this site has reliably learnt.
In the just closed week when the judiciary pronounced itself on the election petition which was filed by Hon. Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert aka Bobi Wine who ran for presidency under the NUP party ticket, only justice Kisakye disagreed with the outcome of the Electoral Commission. She has since faced a series of attacks from the ruling NRM government. The NRM party which did not agree with her calls for the nullification of Museveni’s victory decided to hire bloggers to replicate incidents and scenarios downplaying the personality of justice Kisakye. In one of the incidents replicated by NRM bloggers was when she (Kisakye) was accused of ‘stealing a married man’.
However, Esther did not back down from delivering justice. In her own words, she revealed how she in 2009 took oath to defend the constitution and therefore there was no way she could legitimise the repression that befell Bobi Wine during and after the elections. The determined judge on Friday went ahead to speak to the media outside the supreme court premises and narrated how the Chief justice Alfonse Owiny Dollo, a pronounced NRM cadre judge tried to confiscate her file containing the ruling.
We have since learnt that justice Kisakye is receiving threatening phone calls and SMS texts urging her to desist from making public statements ‘or else await what shall befall her’. We could not independently verify the claim as no authorised body was willing to comment on the incident at the time of filing this report.
It should be recalled that in 2015, a high court judge Joan Kagezi was mercilessly gunned down by unknown assailants using Special Forces Command guns. Minutes after her murder, the CID head Akullo Grace and the then IGP Gen. Kale Kayihura arrived at the scene as if they were on standby awaiting her death.
