Today, the Kawempe North Member of parliament elect, Muhammad Ssegirinya is to return to the Buganda road magistrates court for his bail application hearing.
Our reporter who is already deployed at Buganda road court premises says there are no signs that the prisons service bus will arrive at court on the stipulated 09:00hrs time. “We are here waiting to see if he is to be physically arraigned before court or he is to appear via video feed,” reveals our reporter.
Ssegirinya spent his Easter holidays in Kitalya prison following his remand by Magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu who declined to give him bail. The NUP MP elect is being charged with incitement to violence following his attempted peaceful protests in the downtown Kampala where he called for the release of political prisoners and abducted people languishing in jails on politically motivated charges.
His lawyers, Shamim Malende and George Musisi are confident that their client will be granted bail since it’s a constitutional right.
