Speaking to the press on Saturday, Baine said they are apparently seeking another UGX 30 billion to construct at least 5 more prisons of Kitalya level to cater for the number of inmates in detention.
“We are apparently having over 60,000 inmates in our prisons countrywide,” Baine said. “We seek to address the problem of congestion in our cells and the only way is to widen our budget,” he added.
The 5 new prisons if constructed shall help the government decongest its filled cells were many supporters of NUP are still detained since the electoral season closed.
