The spokesperson for the Uganda prisons service Frank Baine has called on the National Unity Platform party supporters and leaders to refrain from issuing what he called misleading comments on the prison facility of Kitalya.

His reaction comes moments after the speaker of parliament Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga directed the human rights committee to institute a probe into the violations that ensue at the Mityana road based facility. Kadaga was implored to reach that resolve after thoroughly examining the report tabled on Tuesday by the Mityana MP Zaake Francis Butebi.
Similarly, the NUP spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi on Tuesday revaled how the party intends to traverse all the prison facilities in the country. He said this has been inspired by the state of their supporters who upon release appear in very frail and deplorable shape.
Baine now says all these are just political gimmicks by the NUP party. “Of course we are not here to play political games with NUP. That time for politicking ended,” Baine says. “We will permit only those cleared by the office of the Commissioner general. We will not accept the usual politicking by NUP,” Baine warns. He adds that Kitalya is not even flooded with prisoners as reported by NUP. “The prison was built for 3000 people and currently we have around 2700 meaning we even have a deficit,” he said. “When NUP says the cells are filled, then I don’t know where they get those lies. We actually need more prisons in every region because of those very hooligans,” he added.
