Enock Matovu, a journalist working at Serena hotel based Television station dubbed NTV has become the latest victim of security brutality. His battering which occured last night comes just days after the UPDF had staged a reconciliatory football game with journalists in a bid to harmonise the tension between the two institutions.
The whistleblowing of Matovu’s ordeal has been made public by Mityana MP Zaake Francis Butebi who in a Facebook post explained what ensued in his constituency on Thursday night.
By MP Zaake;
“The security operatives have continued to beat up the residents blaming them for voting out NRM, the level of impunity exhibited is so high.
These goons beat whoever they find including journalists executing their duties.
Here is Mr. Enock Matovu the NTV correspondent in Mityana district nursing wounds after being beaten last night by the SFC moving in the vehicle that we call “Bussa” meaning they smear the number plates with cow dung so that it cannot be read.
Enock’s crime is covering stories that expose the gruesome acts of the state brutality toward the citizenry.
The responsible entities should prevail over the situation otherwise the situation may run out of hands.”
