In a latest communication issued by Ms. Jane Kibirige (clerk of parliament), the 529 MPs have been asked to adhere to the covid guidelines or else may not be allowed to attend the inauguration.
“We will not hesitate to lock out extra numbers. We have asked MPs to strictly turn up with only 3 members in their company,” Ms. Kibirige says. “We will write to all the MPs in alphabetical order and we expect them to collect their invitations in 2 days. We are to use Kololo since it’s spacious enough to observe the covid guidelines,” she adds.
With 529 MPs, which is an unprecedented number, the inauguration is to take 4 days as close to 100 MPs will be sworn in daily. The ruling NRM party will take a lion’s share of the house while NUP will lead the minority.
