President Yoweri Museveni has finally opened up on why he no longer uses his official Facebook page. The 77 year old dictator attributes his leave to the alleged misconduct of opposition National Unity Platform party supporters whom he says were fond of promoting ‘hate and sectarianism.’
Museveni who last made a Facebook post on January 11, 2021 a few days to the elections says he was always embarrassed by the comments he encountered on his page.
“I dont like these social media platforms. People use them badly by preaching tribalism. I used to look into my comment section on Facebook and people were saying ‘go back to Rwanda,” Museveni says. “First of all I am not from Rwanda and secondly all those who continue to practice tribalism of any nature will be sorted out. You preach your nosense, we come for you,” Museveni added.
His remarks come at a time when his bloggers, Ashburg Katto, Jennifer Full Figure, Olaxes Isma and the rest face an indefinite ban on the US based social media platform. Museveni’s crew was forced off Facebook following a breach of rules after they would maliciously attack the dissent and manipulate public opinion contrary to the rules of free speech.
