The Uganda People’s Defence Forces say they will honour Gen. Yoweri Museveni with the army’s highest rank of Field Marshal in the next promotions, this site has reliably learnt. The request to elevate Gen. Museveni is being pushed by a one Col. Milton Simba who says he deserves to be crowned for the ‘achievements’ he has registered.
Credible security sources say the rank elevation is likely to ensue immediately after Gen. Museveni takes oath for the sixth term. Museveni has been in power since January 1986 when he ousted the Milton Obote government in a guerrilla coup that lasted for 5 years from 1980-85 when he (Museveni) contested the results of the general elections.
According to wikipedia, Field Marshal is the most senior military rank, ordinarily senior to the highest general officer ranks. Usually is is the highest rank in the army and few persons are appointed to it. It is considered a five star rank (OF-10) in modern day armed forces in many countries. Promotion to the rank of field narshal in many countries historically requires extraordinary military achievement by a general (wartime victory). Gen. Museveni prides in fostering regional instability like in the Central African Republic, DRC, and Somalia among other areas.
If successfully promoted, Museveni will join dictator Idi Amin who was the first to hold the position of Field Marshal in Uganda’s history.
