The self anointed joint opposition speakership candidate and Kiira municipality legislator, Hon Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has expressed his disappointed towards fellow opposition MPs in NUP whom he claims are supporting incumbent Rebecca Kadaga.
Nganda who claims to be the only strong candidate from the opposition says if all opposition MPs combine and front him, he stands high chances of winning. The eleventh parliament is a comprise of 324 NRM MPs, 57 NUP MPs, 32 FDC MPs, 9 DP MPs, 9 UPC MPs, 1 PPP MP and 74 independents. Ssemujju believes if all these could come together and support him, the split in the NRM between Kadaga and Oulanyah supporters can be to the advantage of a united opposition front. However he says he is unhappy on how his fellow opposition MPs have decided to support the NRM’s Rebecca Kadaga instead of him they claim to be with in the struggle.
“When they are in their constituencies campaigning, they tell the irvoters that they are going to parliament to fight. But when they reach here, they totally do the opposite. They are forgetting Kadaga’s role in the age limit bill that brought back Museveni the man we want to get rid of. If we cannot unite on such a platform, what makes you sure that we can form a united front to oust Museveni out?,” Ssemujju said
Parliament will on Monday the 24th of May vote both the speaker and deputy speaker with NRM still in the kitchen cooking to see who will be its flag bearer with the tight race being between Jacob Oulanyah and Rt Hon Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga .
