The National Resistance Movement top organ dubbed the Central Executive Committee has this Sunday morning dropped the incumbent speaker, Rebecca Kadaga in favour of her deputy, Jacob Oulanyah. This follows a last minute call from the party chairman, Gen. Yoweri Museveni who directed CEC to drop Kadaga on grounds that she has not exhibited cadreship and loyalty to the party in the just concluded general elections.
A source privy to the CEC says Kadaga was roasted during vetting to justify her silence when the party chairman was losing unprecedented grip of Busoga region which slid to the National Unity Platform party president Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert aka Bobi Wine. Kadaga in response said she found it hard to defend a party that was arbitrarily arresting youths and targeting political dissent.
Consequently, Gen. Museveni directed that CEC drops her for Oulanyah which they just did. It remains unclear whether she will consider running as independent. However, those close to the Busoga strongwoman say her dream to be speaker remains alive. Other credible state house sources say Gen. Museveni’s security aides tapped phone call conversations between Kadaga and the NUP leader Bobi Wine and they ruled she was was silently lobbying for NUP backing.
