The incumbent speaker of the tenth parliament, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga today turns 65 as the eleventh parliament warms up for the voting which is to occur today morning.
Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga is a Ugandan lawyer and politician who has been Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda since 19 May 2011. She is the first woman to be elected Speaker in the history of the Parliament of Uganda. She succeeded Edward Ssekandi, who served as Speaker from 2001 to 2011. Today, she is set to run for the same position as an independent candidate after being downplayed and rejected by her party top body dubbed the Central Executive Committee which considered her deputy, Jacob Oulanyah.
Kadaga has already surfaced at the Kololo independence grounds where the voting is to take place under the stewardship of the Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny Dollo. The voting shall start at 10am in this rainy morning. She is donned in a black suit, and a blue face mask.
