The National Unity Platform party has fronted the Kampala woman Member of parliament, Hon. Shamim Malende to tussle it out with the NRM candidate, Hon. Anita Among for the Deputy speaker of parliament race.

In a lengthy closed door meeting on Sunday night, leaders in the NUP party said they are not going to leave the position vacant yet they have potential contenders for the seat.
Contacted for a comment, Shamim Malende approved the development but could not divulge more details on her candidature. “We are in the race and we shall win,” she said.
Preparations for the first session of the eleventh parliament are ongoing with the Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny Dollo expected to preside over the polls. The fountain of honour, Gen. Yoweri Museveni is also expected to attend the event as he is anticipated to influence NRM MPs to vote against Kadaga.
