Speaking at the NTV morning show, Ssemujju said that he wrote to NUP regarding his political aspiration but didn’t get a response.

“Bobi Kyagulanyi convened a meeting of NUP members on Sunday and told them to vote Rebecca Kadaga,” Says Hon. Ibrahim Nganda Ssemujju.

Below is the entire extract;

Some times people pursue personal interest and begin rationalizing even the most stupid things they have done. You can’t tell me that I Ssemujju, need a meeting to convince Opposition MPs to vote me into Speakership.

If there’s any position and the Opposition is not offering a candidate and I am still breathing, if I qualify I will go. For me this is struggling for freedom. Nobody should be mistaken that I lost, I did not lose, I am very happy. It’s my colleagues who are now mourning.

I wrote to everyone NUP MP, I even wrote to the NUP President Bobi wine and asked to meet him at his convenience but he did not. Instead, he convened a meeting of NUP members on Sunday and told them to vote Rt Hon Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga

If NUP tells me that they are not going to work with NRM again and then apologise for abandoning the opposition even when we were grouped and sat together, if they take it as a learning lesson, then we will work together if I’m given an opportunity.

I know we will find a rallying point because I take no grudges against anyone. This is a learning process, those who did not vote for me thinking RebeccaKadaga will be their saviour, including those who have been abusing me, now is the time to sit together.

Many Opposition MPs were telling me that they will vote Kadaga because her win will hurt the dictator more .

Parliament hasn’t delayed anything like Museveni alleges. He simply has assembled a team that is shabby. Kibuule, Kasaija who is playful and when they present funny things, we won’t just let them pass

Even when President Museveni gets to a point where he can’t walk, NRM people will put him in a wheel chair and ride him into power. They will bow to everything he says whether sensible or not .

Kadaga had one day to choose between Uganda and Museveni, that was the day of the age limit bill, she chose Museveni.

Ordinary Ugandans know that with this Museveni Government, its hard to have their welfare improved and that’s why we are competing with Ethiopia in exporting girls to Arab countries.

At the start of the just concluded Parliament, almost all things that were discussed in Parliament were brought by Opposition. By then, Cabinet was in total sleep so we have an agenda

If you look at the way we were being checked while entering Kololo, it was a complete hijack and you would tell from the word go that the election was under influence

Kadaga behaved like a Chief, she scattered staff around Parliament, chased journalists and did many things that I don’t want to talk about but between her and Oulanyah, I would choose Kadaga.

We needed a candidate even when we went to Kololo, they labelled our side opposition and sat us together as opposition, NRM on the other side. You see it’s not sophisticated that they can separate your bodies and you take your heart into NRM, you must be very stupid .

To fight dictatorship we are not fighting to get into power like America but to free the country. The competition will be there and will start when the dictatorship ends. We are all victims of dictatorship. The man who beats the church, beats civil society, journalists

In Kamuli, Bobiwine had a candidate for NUP we(FDC) also had a candidate but he asked people to vote Rebecca Kadaga .

For govt to do work in a constituency, it’s a right and there’s no need to kneel down or lobby. To develop Uganda is not a favour. The money we pass to go to local govt doesn’t depend on who represents the local area. The country is just mismanaged.
