It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I learnt of the passing of mzee Omulangila Katerega Frederick Ssalongo father to our brother and comrade Kyabaggu Geserwa commonly known as Pympah! Mzee Katerega passed on this morning after being admitted in hospital for over a week.

Pympah was one of our comrades who has been illegally kept at Kitalya prison for close to five months. He was only released on Tuesday and immediately rushed to the hospital, only to find that his father was on oxygen. He did not have chance to speak with him, because shortly after, his condition worsened and they took him to ICU.

Mzee Kateregga while at our office a few weeks back, wept about his son’s incarceration. He talked of how Pympah has been his strongest pillar, always taking care of his health needs. He came to see me at office and carried some gifts for me and requested us not to give up the struggle. We also did what we could to support him and Pympah’s family, like we have tried with others, but no one can replace family. Mzee Katerega never missed court, except this last one. He was always coming to Makindye to see if his son would be released. Most times, he went back disappointed.

Pympah learnt of his father’s condition while at the Court Martial on Tuesday. On Wednesday when I hosted these comrades for breakfast, Pympah who is a very strong comrade failed to finish his remarks, because his father’s condition weighed heavily on him.

Pympah now joins comrades Achleo Kivumbi, Eddie Mutwe and several others whose close relatives have passed under these circumstances.

It is very sad that those who rule over us illegally are so evil to a point of not understanding the kind of pain they are causing to these friends for no crime whatsoever. They have continued to sow hate, and in due course, they will reap it in abundance.

Mzee, may your soul rest in peace.
