Former presidential candidate Eng. Patrick Amuriat Oboi who stood under the Forum for Democratic Change party ticket has tasked the National Unity Platform party to bury the hatchet and reach out to him if they want to have experience in Uganda’s political struggle for liberation.
Amuriat made these statements while attending the thanksgiving event of former Leader of opposition Betty Aol Ochan in Gulu district. According to Amuriat, the NUP party should be at liberty to tap from senior experienced leaders like himself. POA believes that with over 15 years of being a member of parliament who served on various committees, it is vital for NUP to value his seniority.
POA also commended the NUP for structuring a formidable opposition front. He however discredited the Kamwokya secretariat for sidelining FDC bigwigs like Kiira municipality legislator Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda and Budadiri MP Nathan Nandala Mafabi whom he says could have helped the struggle if they were incorporated into the NUP minroty government structures.
“NUP should not have left out Ssemujju and Mafabi,” said the former presidential candidate who was the third with 3.8% of the total votes. “We are available for consultation if NUP needs us. FDC is a very experienced party and a key player in the struggle,” he added.
Since the sudden exit of Dr. Besigye who was the FDC party’s kingpin for the past 20 years, the once vibrant opposition front has drastically collapsed especially with a mass exodus of its members who sought solace in Gen. Muntu’s ANT party. The party has even lost grip of its office of the LOP which they have held for over 15 years.
