Former Deputy Attorney General who just served as the state Minister for labour and gender, Mwesigwa Rukutana says he has already laid plans to survive in the next 5 years after missing out on the 2021-26 cabinet. A heartbroken Rukutana says much as he has been in government, he has never forgotten his law career.
“Appointments are discretion of the president. I’ve renewed my practicing license and I’m in the last touches of renovating my Mwesigwa Rukutana and Co. advocates Law Chambers where I will serve people,” he said.
Rukutana’s term has been characterized by arrogance as witnessed when he dared the Catherine Bamugemereire land Commission to ‘hang’ during a probe. The uncharitable and indignant duel ended with an embarrassment to Bamugemereire when an egoistic Rukutana declined to testify in a probe that cost government billions of money cleared by him through a legal opinion he authored for the Mutungo land in Kampala where a tycoon received UGX 8 billion.
During the NRM party primaries for the Ruhama county in Ntungamo district, Rukutana was arrested for attempted murder after he grabbed a gun from his escort and tried to shoot at a civilian. He was briefly detained at Mbarara Central police station before he was transferred to Kitalya VIP section where he spent just a fortnight before obtaining bail. Sources privy to the cabinet appointments say Rukutana’s duel with the first lady, Janet Kataaha Museveni is the cause of his ejection from the system. Kataaha backed a one Naome Kabasharira to trounce Rukutana in the Ruhama MP polls.
