Former speaker of parliament also Kamuli woman Member of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga on Monday confirmed that she is ready to bury the hatchet and work under the new Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja.
Kadaga was on Monday vetted and approved as the first Deputy Prime Minister via a zoom video interface with the parliamentary appointments committee. Kadaga who has a very fat CV having been the first woman to head the legislative arm of government also historically prides in being the first woman to set up a law firm in Uganda in 1984. It is important to note that Kadaga had earlier vowed not to deputize anyone as she eyed the third speaker bid. “As speaker, I head an arm of government. I cannot work under anyone. I want to be the one in control and I can achieve that as speaker,” she told media as she protested any possible appointment as Vice President as earlier intended by the NRM high command. “I will not accept any other appointment other than being a speaker of parliament,” she vowed.
But immediately after losing the seat to her then Deputy, Jacob Oulanyah of Omolo county, Kadaga disappeared from the media limelight only to surface on cabinet at a much lower position of the first Deputy PM. Now that she has been approved, Kadaga with her huge expertise in leadership will bend her knees to report to Kakumiro woman MP Robinah Nabbanja who now is at the helm. Political pundits had anticipated Kadaga to reject any cabinet slot but she has done the contrary.
