In 2017, Abaine Enock was a DPC of Rukungiri central police station when he shot and killed a 19 year old boy at a pro-opposition rally mobilized by the FDC activists opposed to the scrapping of the age limit. Despite causing an end to a life, Abaine was never apprehended but rather transferred from Rukungiri to Makerere University where he again unleashed terror on opposition leaning student activists.

He however remained at Makerere till 2019 when he was transferred to Masaka district and his rank was elevated to the Regional Police Commander. Given his history of tormenting opposition supporters, Abaine deemed the 2021 campaign trail as an opportunity for him to pounce his fury on supporters of the National Unity Platform party. His peers in the police force say Abaine passionately hates people of Buganda ethnicity. “Even in the police station, he prefers to work with his fellow westerners,” a police officer told this reporter. “He treats Baganda servicemen like dogs and he always brags how the government belongs to westerners,” our source confidently adds as he makes a point that Abaine is tribal.

Indeed, Abaine again bounced in the media limelight on the fateful day he shot a canister that injured Ghetto TV journalist, Ashraf Kasirye who was covering the Bobi Wine trail as they retired from church. An enraged Abaine held his canister gun and shot directly at Ashraf Kasirye’s head and left him to die. He even ordered the nearby police officers not to sacrifice a patrol to rush the victim to hospital. “leave that dog to die,” Abaine said in Runyankole.

All these atrocities were being covered by NTV Journalist Ali Mivule and when Abaine realized he was put on record, he again fired a couple of canisters at Mivule as he shouted ‘collateral damage.’ Mivule was only rescued by a UPDF soldier who restrained the shameless trigger happy Abaine.
