The City Lord Mayor Ssalongo Erias Lukwago has come out to say that he cannot join the NUP bandwagon and showbiz of MPs who are buying ambulances as a sign to show their care to the electorate.
Lukwago says the people of Kampala should not expect any ambulance or even its wheel from him but rather insisting that it is not his role to do the procurement of such. He says he will invest that energy in the fighting of the corrupt leaders who eat the money supposed to buy ambulances and provide other services to the tax payers.
Lukwago adds that it is cheap popularity for a politician to assume the roles of those who are supposed to provide the services to the tax payer. As a senior lawyer and experienced politician, Lukwago says he cannot involve himself in petty showbiz like NUP MPs who give out faulty ambulances to win the hearts of their people.
“I cannot buy the ambulance when people supposed to procure them are running away with the money,” Lukwago retorted on Monday while appearing on the NBS Frontline show. “I am not in the office of the Lord Mayor to pass time but rather to fight and bring this dictatorial regime down,” he added.
However, city dwellers say Lukwago should not look for excuses as he is known for his glue hand when it comes to charity. “He has never helped anyone and I don’t think he can,” Mulimira, a resident of Lungujja who stays close to the Lord Mayor says. “He is a mean man who has never financially assisted anyone,” he adds.
