Museveni has always claimed that his late father Mzee Amos Kaguta named him ‘Museveni’ after the seveth battalion of African troops who fought on the side of the British army and the allied forces against the axis powers.
The late Esteri Kwokundekwa and Mzee Amos Kaguta were peasant farmers and cattle keepers. Esteri passed on in 2001 while Amos died in 2013.
Though Museveni claims to be young, some of the people who studied with Museveni in elementary school and post primary say he is older than what he claims to be.
“I studied with Museveni at Ntare School in Mbarara in 1963 but he was the oldest in our class,” an old boy to Museveni says. “He always isolated himself from the other students. He acted mature and did not befit the status of a teen. Museveni was even expelled from Ntare school when he mercilessly strangled a teacher’s dog in an experiment where he wanted to see how a creature can succumb to pain,” he adds.
Even his alumnus at the University of Dar es Salaam say he joined campus when he was already in his late 40’s.
