Former Security Minsiter also top NRA high command member Gen Elly Tumwine has rubbished the opposition liberation efforts saying that the UPDF will not allow any situation where some one will use unconstitutional means to ever take Power again in Uganda.

“We cannot allow a situation where someone will use other means other than elections to take power again in Uganda,” he said. “We responded to violent NUP protests last November. That shows we have capacity to maintain peace and order in this country. Those who think we can hand over to a violent group are just confused,” he added.

Tumwine says the only legitimate way to bring about a transition in Uganda is through an election with all other means being unconstitutional and illegal.

Tumwine also hinted about the formation of Kizza Besigye’s pressure group dubbed the People’s Front for Transition which has intentions to overthrow the government of Gen Museveni through any means Possible.

Tumwine says that such pressure groups will always be formed to satisfy the ego of their founders but can never achieve their goals because the army is always on standby to defeat any form of uprising and chaos that the opposition plans to bring.

It should noted that Gen. Tumwiine was in this 2021-26 tenure relegated from cabinet to a mere presidential advisor, a thing that signified that Museveni is now recruiting a post-bush war generation. The knifing of Tumwiine went bizarre after he ranted and even threatened to engage Museveni in retirement talks. However, he has since settled to a low profile life leaving the public wondering if he was serious about retiring Museveni from the presidency. Gen. Tumwiine is amongst the sanctioned army chiefs implicted in gross rights violations as witnessed in his glorification comments on the November 2020 state sanctioned killings.
