Four time presidential contender Rtd. Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye has fired back at his social media critics who accuse him of frustrating change efforts by failing to rally behind the People Power leader Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert aka Bobi Wine. According to Dr. Besigye who spoke at the People’s Front for Transition presser held at JEEMA party head offices in Mengo on Tuesday, the reason he is still on the political arena is because he does not see a formidable political figure to deliver change to the people of Uganda.
“I see them making reckless statements on social media that I have refused to step aside. This is not about me. This is not my struggle. It is a struggle for the people of Uganda,” Besigye said. “I can step aside for anyone who is serious about liberating this country. It is not that I want to be the leader of this struggle. Anyone can lead this struggle,” he added.
At the same event, Dr. Besigye also launched his 13 point plan upon his ascension to the top seat of the country. Besigye and his team say they will traverse the entire country in pursuit of the people’s mandate. In his 13 point plan, he says he will form a transition government in 6 months. He further pledged constitutional reforms in a space of 36 months, restructuring government institutions and public service in 24 months among other things.
