On Saturday, Dr. Besigye flanked by his entourage of veteran politicians like Dr. Stella Nyanzi, Ken Lukyamuzi, and several others pitched camp in the Kigezi subregion and peacefully launched their front agenda amidst tight police protection.

While addressing the crowds, Besigye said his agenda is clearly hinged on dislodging the junta and relieving this country from captivity. Besigye says Uganda as a country has faced unmatched challenges ranging from political, social and economic. He attributes all these to the reign of his bush war comrade Gen. Yoweri Museveni whom he says has deprived this country of a lot of things.

On the same podium, ex Rubaga South MP John Ken Lukyamuzi who was granted a chance to speak used the opportunity to scoff at supporters of the National Unity Platform party. Lukyamuzi says these trolls have failed to recognize the efforts and tracks left behind by Dr. Besigye in Uganda’s struggle. “I want to thank the people of Kigezi for raising an icon for this country. You cannot talk about Uganda’s struggle without mentioning the name Besigye,” he retorted. “Besigye has endured a lot of difficulties in the discourse of this struggle. He is a man who has been arrester countless times and smelt chunks of teargas,” he added.

The People’s Front for Transition has since its launch enjoyed a convenient working relationship with the police unlike NUP which is being targeted. Recently in Kasese district, about 5 coordinators of NUP were arrested and charged with subversion despite the fact that they wete exercising their liberty to association at the time of their arrest.
