Mabirizi in a legal suit filed on December 8, wants court to cancel Bugingo’s wedding on grounds that it contravenes section 50 of the marriage act that prohibits an individual from consecutively exhanging marriage vows with another person before successfully divorcing the first spouse.

“Aloysius Bujingo on the 7th day of December 2021, at Kawuku, Katabi Town Council, Wakiso district, you, having contracted marriage under the Marriage act with Teddy Naluswa Bujingo and during the continuance of that marriage contracted a marriage in accordance with the customary law with Suzan Makula Nantaba,” reads part of Mabirizi’s suit addressed to the Chief Magistrates Court Entebbe.

Legal analysts say Mabirizi’s suit holds water if at all he is ready and willing to accord it ample attention.

“He can register his first high profile victory because court has not yet pronounced itself on the divorce case of Bujingo and Ms. Teddy Naluswa,” counsel Alex Turyahebwa weighs in on Mabirizi case. “Due to the fact that there is no ruling yet in the divorce case of Pr. Bujingo and his wife, the current marriage is null and void according to the laws of this country,” he adds.

Meanwhile, Pr. Bugingo says he will not be detracted from his decision to tie the knot with his new lover. Bujingo says Mabirizi is idle and simply seeking relevance as usual. “I have better things to do other than discuss a mad man misusing the law he learnt at university,” Bujingo fumed. “Who doesn’t know that idle jobless lawyer? He simply wants clout,” added the troubled pastor.

“Teddy has no obligation to prove for Bugingo his case. Let Bugingo argue his divorce petition until he wins it and get a divorce. Teddy just sit and take your tea with popcorn and watch the movie,” argues lawyer Mpiirwe.
