The opposition Forum for Democratic Change party has dismissed allegations that a fraction of its members from Mukono have crossed to the National Unity Platform party.
Their reaction comes a day after a wave of alleged FDC members on Tuesday denounced their affiliation to the Najjanankumbi based party in favour of the National Unity Platform party which they said had a much more clearer liberation agenda.
FDC says NUP is just playing politics of antics to remain in the spotlight of the news.
“You see this is not the time for playing politics. These people are now in the driving seat of the opposition. What new thing do they have for the people of Uganda?,” asks FDC party Vice President Salaam Musumba. “We are past that politics of defections. We need to be accountable to the people who thrust their mandate on us,” she adds.
Meanwhile, the FDC party secretary general Nathan Nandala Mafabi says even the alleged Mukono defectors are not registered in the party books as members.
“This business of getting Boda Boda riders, market vendors and hawkers to masquerade them as FDC members ended. We know those antics,” Mafabi says. “This is not new. We are used to all these NUP games. For us as FDC, we shall move forward till we achieve our liberation agenda,” he vows.
On Tuesday, a mammoth crowd of alleged supporters of FDC crossed to NUP in an event that was witnessed by the party president Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert. The FDC members were unveiled by the Mukono municipality legislator Betty Nambooze Bakireke who formerly served as the spokesperson for Besigye’s People’s Government.
