News jetting in indicates that the embattled Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence boss Maj. Gen. Abel Kandiho has been relieved of his duties following weeks of heavy pressure piled by the US government. His axing comes a day after we reported his alleged role in the torture of political prisoners whereby he spearheaded a terror campaign that saw NUP supporters fed to crocodiles and other deadly reptiles.

The development of his sacking is confirmed by a tweet published by the Commander of Land Forces Lt. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba who on January 25 wrote, “I congratulate both Maj. Gen. Abel Kandiho and Maj. Gen James Birungi on their new appointments. Hongera Sana.”

Kandiho becomes one of the top brass military officers to be sacked and sanctioned by the US administration after the same fate befell former police chief Gen. Kale Kayihura, and ex ISO head Kaka Bagyenda.

Sources in the military say Kandiho requested that he gets posted as a detachee in Sudan so he can at least fade out of the media limelight.
