Controversial public interest litigant Male Mabirizi Kiwanuka is in deep trouble following a court order issued on Tuesday instrucing law enforcers to institute his arrest. In the order issued by High Court judge Musa Ssekaana, Mabirizi is to spend 18 months feasting on the posho of Kitalya prison after court ruled that he is contemptuous despite numerous summons.
The ruling emanated from an application by state attorney Patricia Mutesi who argued that despite January 27, court orders cautioning Mabirizi to retreat from belittling judges in his social media posts, he kept on doing the same. In the pinned posts, Mabirizi is quoted to have declared Ssekaana biased and unfit to serve in any court of law. This attracted a heavy fine of UGX 300m which Mabirizi insisted on evading on grounds that the verdict was reached minus according him a fair hearing.
Sources say Mabirizi was this early morning nabbed escaping from his Nansana residence. Mabirizi is to be arraigned before court later this week and he is to spend 18 months in Kitalya if he does not take plea. The matter is however complicated as court has already convicted him and issued an 18 months sentence.
