Nakaseke South Member of Parliament Hon. Paulson Luttamaguzi Seemakula has grilled the government over plans by the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) to elevate the renewal payment for the National Identification Cards from the apparent 50,000 shillings to 500,000 shillings.
Speaking at the Wednesday plenary this afternoon, Luttamaguzi said efforts to hike the National ID charges will exclude very many Ugandans from registering.
He says even the current UGX 50,000 renewal fees are still a problem to the public and therefore it becomes quite surprising that the same institution seeks to hike the dues to UGX 500,000.
Reports that have enveloped mainstream media indicate that NIRA wants to institute an exorbitant fee for Ugandans who seek to renew their National IDs.
