The Spokesperson of the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces Brig. Gen. Felix Kulayigye has faulted opposition supporters of the National Unity Platform party with being behind the digital fabrications and concoctions aimed at ‘tarnishing’ the image of the military.
Addressing press on Tuesday after interfacing with the Parliamentary human rights committee, a disheartened Kulayigye said there is a scripted tendency by key players in the opposition who deliberately fabricate photos and stories with the intent of putting the military into disrepute. He cites the most recent alleged rape of 29 year old Alexandria Marinos, a resident of Mbuya who accused CMI soldiers with having abducted and sexually assaulted her in illegal custody.
“We now have a problem of technology. These people make up lies and fabricate photos with make up to depict the army as brutal. Some of them even paint food colors on their bodies to imitate blood and wounds,” Kulayigye said. “As the army, we are also having issues of impersonation. You saw 4 people who were arrested with military fatigue. One of them ranking at Major,” he added.
Kulayigye also said that he had no knowledge about the safe houses affiliated to the army.
“We invite parliament to investigate and show us the exact locations of the safe houses because as the military, we are unaware of any,” he said. “Those safe houses could be run by malicious people who want to put the army in disrepute,” he added.
