The speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Among yesterday directed the Inspectorate of Government to investigate the mismanagement of public funds by the Minister for science and technology Monica Musenero after MPs completed a report that implicates her in the misappropriation of billions of shillings meant for the production of the COVID-19 vaccine.

A day after MPs proposed that she steps aside, the embattled Musenero today spoke to media about the proposal, discrediting parliament as a toothless institution that does not have any authority on her.

“I didn’t appoint myself neither did parliament appoint me. I will continue to work till am interdicted by the appointing authority (Museveni),” Musenero said. “That’s why the speaker referred my censure to the executive because she knows parliament has no powers to censure me,” she added.

Musenero also urged the Ntungamo municipality MP Yona Musinguzi to calm down and reduce his fury on her.

“Musinguzi should calm down because even if I’m censured, he will not take over the office. Let him cool down his heart and move on,” she said. “I have very many projects to handle. I’m here to serve my country,” she added.

Reacting on Musenero’s reiterations, Musinguzi says they will fight to the final breath till Musenero is sacked.

“We have raised the required signatures. She will be censured. She has to step aside prior to what the executive shall say. I don’t trust the IGG much but I know she will do something,” he said.
