The election petition case filed by the Kayunga by-election National Unity Platform party candidate Harriet Nakwedde is set to be heard today at the civil court division in Mukono. Nakwedde challenges the declaration of NRM’s Andrew Muwonge as the victor candidate for the 2021 by-election.

Muwonge was declared the winner by the Kayunga District Returning officer Jennifer Kyobutungi having obtained 31,830 votes. He was closely followed by the National Unity Platform (NUP)’s Harriet Nakweede Kafeero who garnered 31, 380 votes according to the EC results.

However, the NUP candidate cited aggravated voter malpractice that manifested in the entirety of the polls. The NUP say NRM unleashed unprecedented vote rigging and even failed to pronounce the actual tally of the polls. NUP stress that what was declared by the EC was not what was reflecting on the polling stations and in a bid to back this acclaim, they have collected the DR forms to present to court.
